A grand reconstruction of a Renaissance castle on the edge of Montlouis-sur-Loire, the Château de la Bourdaisière stands on the site of earlier castles, one home to the warrior Boucicaut, another to King François I’s finance minister Philibert Babou, whose grand daughter Gabrielle d’Estrées became famed as King Henri IV’s mistress.
The château is now a hotel, but the restored grounds are a tourist sight with a fine kitchen garden and an extra ordinary tomato conservatory.
